Our 9 Favorite Fall Soup Recipes

As soon as fall rolls around, I start craving a big bowl of soup for dinner. Something creamy and cheesy, or a pot that simmers slowly until the broth is rich and every bite is tender. Add a little bread for dipping, and I’m happy.

I’ve gathered nine of our favorite soups for those cooler evenings. From earthy mushroom soup to hearty beef barley and rustic French ham and bean soup, these are delicious reasons to get your soup pot out this fall.

    Hungarian Mushroom Soup

Earthy mushrooms simmer in a creamy, golden broth flavored with Hungarian sweet paprika and fresh dill. Sour cream gives it a lovely tangy finish. This is one I love with a thick slice of crusty bread to soak up every last spoonful.

    Chicken Pot Pie Soup

My Chicken Pot Pie Soup brings all those comforting pot pie flavors into a wonderfully creamy bowl. Tender chicken and vegetables make it hearty, while a little Creole seasoning gives it extra personality. Serve it with warm, flaky biscuits for a dinner everyone will look forward to.

    Beef Barley Soup

This is the soup to make when you have an afternoon to let something delicious simmer. Chunks of chuck roast become beautifully tender in a savory, herb-scented broth, while pearled barley and mushrooms make every spoonful extra satisfying. A perfect dinner for a chilly fall Sunday.

    Broccoli Cheddar Soup

Rich, creamy and full of cheddar, this homemade soup makes broccoli something to get excited about. It comes together in just 30 minutes, so you can have a cozy bowl on the table even on your busiest evenings. I love a little extra shredded cheese on top.

Slow Cooker Sausage and Potato Soup

Browned sausage gives this soup wonderful savory flavor, while tender potatoes and sweet corn make it thick and hearty. A little cream stirred in at the end brings everything together into a luscious, chowder-like bowl. Let the slow cooker handle the simmering, then grab your biggest soup spoon.

    Tuscan White Bean Soup (Ribollita)

Creamy white beans and kale simmer in a rich tomato and herb broth, with a Parmesan rind adding delicious depth. Ladling it over chunks of crusty bread turns this rustic Tuscan soup into an especially satisfying meal. That bread soaking up the broth is my favorite part!

    Easy Split Pea Soup

A meaty ham bone gives this thick, hearty soup its deep savory flavor as the split peas soften and turn wonderfully creamy. It’s an old-fashioned favorite that deserves a spot in your fall dinner rotation, with directions for the slow cooker, stovetop and Instant Pot.
