Ingredients
- 1 meaty ham bone
- 1 onion, diced
- 3 stalks celery, diced
- 3 medium carrots, diced
- 14oz dried split peas, rinsed and sorted
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- 1.5 tsp dried oregano
- ½-1 tsp crushed red pepper
- 4 cups low sodium chicken broth
Instructions
- Place all ingredients in slow cooker. Mix to combine well.
- Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours, or high for 3-4 hours, or until peas are fully cooked. (see note 3)
- Carefully remove the ham bone from the slow cooker and place it on a large cutting board. Remove all meat from the bone. Return the meat to the slow cooker. Mix well.
- Serve immediately.
